Kids Struggling with school?

Are your kids experiencing difficulties at school?

Many high school students struggle silently under the weight of academic pressure. Between demanding coursework, constant testing, and the expectation to excel for college applications, it’s easy for them to feel overwhelmed and inadequate. Some find it hard to keep up with fast-paced lessons, while others wrestle with subjects that don’t come naturally, leading to frustration and self-doubt. The fear of falling behind or disappointing parents and teachers can cause anxiety, burnout, and a loss of motivation.

Why

Many high school students struggle academically for a mix of reasons that often build on one another. Some lack effective learning strategies — their notes are scattered, assignments pile up, and they feel constantly behind because they haven’t learned how to stay organized or manage their time. Others lose motivation because they don’t see the purpose behind what they’re learning; the material feels abstract, too difficult, or disconnected from their goals. Without a clear sense of direction, school becomes something they have to do rather than something that helps them grow. On top of that, many students don’t know how—or don’t feel comfortable enough—to ask for help. Whether it’s fear of being judged or not knowing who to turn to, this silence can make their struggles heavier, leaving them feeling stuck and alone even when support is available. In addition, peer pressure may also plays a role.

How can we help?

To truly help high school students who are struggling academically, the first step is to identify the root causes behind their challenges. This means looking beyond grades to understand why they’re having difficulties—whether it’s disorganization, lack of motivation, unclear goals, or difficulty grasping certain subjects. Once the reasons are clear, an individualized plan can be created to match each student’s needs, focusing on personalized learning strategies, achievable short-term goals, and ways to connect schoolwork to their real-life interests. Finally, consistent support in implementing the plan is key—through mentoring, regular check-ins, and encouragement—so that students can build habits, regain confidence, and experience the satisfaction of progress step by step.
